We journey from pre-colonial Australia through to present day to discover how history, trauma impact, traditional identity and relationships with community may contribute to your Aboriginal student’s learning experiences.

You will develop an understanding of how these four elements can influence your students’ learning, and explore how to move forward with incorporating aspects of Aboriginality into your classroom and wider school community.


General Information

This course was developed for pre-school through to Stage 6 educators, but is suitable for anyone who would like to learn more about Australian history and it's impact through to present day. It is presented face-to-face over 5 hours. Course content is founded on the expertise and research of Joseph Moore.


Course Structure

Module 1: Explore Australia's incredible history, both pre and post colonisation. 

Module 2: Discussions around some of the challenges we face in improving learning outcomes. Generational trauma impact, stereotypes and prejudices, and the current academic statistics are considered.

Module 3: Aspects of traditional and contemporary identity.

Module 4: Key points around building relationships with community and cultural differences that may be experienced.

Module 5: Protocols to be aware of and ways to incorporate aspects of Aboriginality into your school.


Completing this course will contribute 5 hours of NESA registered Professional Development addressing 2.4.2 and 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
